What to Expect

A Clear Guide to Your Surgical Experience

At Boston Eye Surgery & Laser Center, we want every patient to feel comfortable and prepared. This section outlines what happens before, during, and after your procedure, giving you a clear understanding of each stage of your surgical journey so you can arrive with confidence and recover with ease.

Before Surgery

  • Complete Pre-Surgery Forms: For convenience, you can download and print our Patient Checklist under the “Resources” tab.
  • Follow Fasting Instructions: Schedule a visit with your Primary Care Provider (PCP) within 60 days of surgery for medical clearance.
  • Arrange Transportation: The day before your surgery, Boston Eye Surgery and Laser Center will call you to confirm your arrival time and review pre-operative instructions. Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to and from surgery. If you are scheduled as one of our last patients of the day, please note that your ride must remain in the building while you are in surgery.

Day of Surgery

  • Check-In at the Center: We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing and supportive, closed-toe shoes. For your safety, be sure to remove all makeup including eyeliner and mascara before arrival. We encourage you to leave valuables at home for peace of mind.
  • Meet Your Surgical Team: You’ll meet with our anesthesia team, who will review your health history.
  • Procedure Preparation: An IV will be started and you will receive medication to help you feel relaxed and comfortable.

  • Our anesthesia team will be with you throughout your procedure, to ensure your comfort and safety at all times.

After Surgery

  • Recovery & Observation: Our team will guide you through recovery before being discharged.
  • Follow Post-Operative Instructions: You will be brought to the waiting room once you are discharged from the recovery area. From there, your responsible adult who accompanied you to surgery will escort you to your vehicle and bring you to your home.
  • Schedule Follow-Up Appointments: Following post-op instructions is essential for healing.
