Dr. Shah attended the University of Rochester where he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.  He graduated with Distinction in Research from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.  While in medical school, he was one of 25 medical students in the country to receive the American Medical Association Leadership Award.  Driven by an interest in community health and research, Dr. Shah earned a Masters in Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health.  He completed his internship in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Shah did his residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia where he served as a Chief Resident. He stayed at Wills Eye Institute to complete fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery.  He was one of four fellows nationwide honored with a Ronald G. Michels Retina Fellowship Award.  He received the Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for his contribution to the field.

Dr. Shah has spoken nationally and published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He was a Chief Editor of the Wills Eye Manual, one of the best selling ophthalmology textbooks in the world.  He also co-authored the Wills Eye Interactive Review of Ophthalmology, and serves as a Co-Editor of both the Clinical Trials section of Retina Times and the Five Minute Consult in Ophthalmology.  He authored Our Health is Our Only Wealth: The Lok Swasthya Sewa Health Cooperative, a book based on his public health experience in India that explores a novel indigenous health system.  His past and current research interests cover a myriad of retinal conditions, including macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment.

Dr. Shah is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has vast experience in the medical and surgical treatment of all retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal vein occlusions.  He performs advanced retinal surgery for many vitreoretinal diseases, including macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments, and proliferative vitreoretinopathy.  He is involved in numerous clinical trials and is able to provide the most sophisticated treatments available.

Dr. Shah, an avid marathoner, enjoys running and cycling with his wife and children.
