Prior to:
A medical examination is required prior to surgery.This may be performed by your
family physician or your ophthalmologist's office can arrange an exam for you with an
internist.
An EKG is also required prior to surgery if you are 65 years or older.
Your surgeon may order pre-operative laboratory tests for you prior to your surgery.
Your surgeon will specify the site for these tests. Your medical checkup and EKG
must be completed within sixty days.If these medical services are not completed
within this time frame, the staff at the Center will be required to postpone your
surgery. Please inform your ophthalmologist and anesthesiologist of:

Any allergies that you have.

Any prescriptive medication you are currently taking.

Use of aspirin, Coumadin or any product containing aspirin.

Development of cold or flu symptoms, a fever, or any other illness.

Pregnancy or suspicion of pregnancy.

Day before:
A staff member will call you the day before your surgery to confirm your arrival time
and to answer questions. If you wish you may also call the Center the day before your
surgery after 10:00 am to find out your pre-op instructions. We can be reached at

Nothing to eat 6 hrs prior to surgery. Clear liquids are permitted up to 2 hrs prior to arrival time.

All usual medications may be taken with a sip of water unless specifically instructed to do otherwise by your ophthalmologist or anesthesiologist.

You may brush your teeth and rinse out your mouth.

If your appointment is scheduled after 1:00pm, you may have tea, coffee and toast early in the morning but no later than eight hours before your scheduled surgery.
These precautionary measures are designed to make your surgery safer and more comfortable.
