Day of:

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that buttons down the front.

Do not bring valuables with you, including jewelry.

Do not wear makeup.

A waiting room is available for your friends and relatives. Please limit the number of family/friends you bring with you. An adult must accompany children.

Bring your insurance cards with you.
PLEASE NOTE: Boston Eye Surgery & Laser Center requires all patients to be escorted home by a responsible adult after surgery. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

Upon arrival:
Please arrive at Boston Eye Surgery & Laser Center at the time requested by the staff.
If you will be unable to make your appointment on time or if you need to cancel,
please call the Center immediately. Your consideration will help our staff provide
efficient care for everyone. Be sure to bring your insurance cards with you on the day
of surgery. The front desk will verify them to ensure proper billing.
Your procedure will be performed by your ophthalmologist in one of our three
operating rooms or in one of the specially equipped laser rooms. Your surgeon will
determine which room is appropriate for your procedure.
Many, but not all of the procedures performed at Boston Eye Surgery & Laser Center
require the use of local anesthetic injection done by a trained board certified
anesthesiologist. This injection is all that is needed to fully numb the eye for surgery.
Prior to this injection you will receive a mild sedative to help make you more
comfortable.

Recovery:
Following your surgical procedure, you will be escorted to the recovery area where
your blood pressure and pulse will be monitored. The Center will provide you with a
light snack at this time. A friend or relative may sit with you as you prepare for
discharge. The nursing staff will provide you with after surgery instructions that you
will be required to follow. The total time in the recovery area is between 20-30
minutes. Your ride needs to be available to pick you up after this time. Discharge
times vary for each individual patient but your total pre-operative, surgical and
recovery time is approximately three hours. Remember the Center will not allow
patients to leave unaccompanied. You may not drive or take a taxi or public
transportation alone following the surgery. A comfortable waiting room is available
for friends and family who are willing to take you home.
